Pharmacy Transfer Tubing

Single lead pharmacy fluid transfer tubing set with universal spike, silicone pump insert, male luer.

  • Materials; NON-DEHP PVC, SILICONE, ABS.
  • Fluid pathway sterile in unopened package.
  • Latex free, pyrogen free.
  • For use with peristaltic pumps.

Silicon Materials

There are many benefits and advantages of silicon and silicon is used in fluid transfer tubing.

  • Withstands high & low temperatures far better than organic rubber.
  • Good thermal stability.
  • Repels water & forms tight seals.
  • Excellent electrical insulation, no decline in insulation performance even when immersed in water, making it an ideal insulating material.
  • Flexible at low temperatures, stiffens up at higher temperatures.
  • Under ordinary pressure, contact with steam typically causes little or no deterioration.
  • Flame retardant, will not ignite easily. Some products received UL94 V-0 certification according to the UL94 (USA) standards for flammability classification.
  • Unlike most organic elastomers such as EPDM and neoprene, the compression set of silicone rubber is consistent over a wide range of temperatures from -60 to +250C. The selection of a proper curing agent and post-curing is particularly recommended when using silicone material to make molded products that require a low compression set.
  • Customizable for specific applications by adjusting the compound recipe by selecting the proper curing agent and/or post-curing the compound to improve resistance to flames, steam & hot water (over 150C)
  • Low chemical reactivity.

Silicone rubber withstands high and low temperatures far better than their organic rubber counterparts.

  • Ability to be used continuously at 150C (302 F) with virtually no change in its properties.
  • Certain silicone compounds can withstand use even at 200C (392 F) for 10,000 hours or more.
  • Some silicone rubber products can withstand heat upwards of 350C (662 F) for short periods.

Male Luer

What is a "Luer"?

The Luer taper is a standardized system of small-scale fluid fittings used for making leak-free connections between a male-taper fitting and its mating female part on medical and laboratory instruments, including hypodermic syringe tips and needles or stopcocks and needles.

Pyrogen-free

Pyrogen is any substance that causes a fever. The most commonly thought of pyrogens are bacterial endotoxins and exotoxins, although the host body (human or animal) can also produce pyrogens. The most commonly assayed for pyrogen is lipopolysaccharide, or LPS. It is a component of the bacterial wall of Gram-negative bacteria and is released upon breakdown of the cell wall or bacterial cell lysis.

Pyrogen-free products are manufactured in settings that prevent the deposition of bacteria and other agents on the products.

Patient Safety

PVC-free, DEHP-free products help protect susceptible populations: critically ill male neonates, pregnant and lactating women, pediatric patients, adolescent boys, and chemotherapy patients. Animal toxicity studies indicate that PVC and DEHP target the testes, liver and kidneys.

PVC and the Environment

The incineration of PVC products produces toxic HCl and contributes to acid rain. The benefits of PVC-free, DEHP-free products:

  • Fewer emissions - 30 times less toxic than PVC when incinerated
  • IV containers weigh 28%- 48% less than comparable PVC containers (both with overwrap). This reduced waste saves 30% annually in landfill and disposal costs materials.
