GentleCath Uncoated Intermittent Urinary Catheter is designed to make catheter insertion and removal as smooth and easy as possible for the patient. The product features polished and rounded eyelets to minimize friction, and has a soft, rounded tip that aids smooth insertion. It is available in male and female straight tip and male coude tip (for insertion through complicated passages). The product is available in a wide range of sizes and features color-coded funnels for easy size identification

Indications of Convatec 501005 GentleCath Straight Tip PVC Urinary Catheter

Intermittent catheters are indicated for routine short term drainage of the bladder. The catheter is inserted through the urethra.

Convatec 501005 GentleCath Straight Tip PVC Urinary Catheter Cautions, Precautions & Observations

  • Check the catheters integrity prior to insertion.
  • Select a replacement catheter if required.
  • Do not use if package has been previously opened or damaged.
  • Do not touch the catheter tip before insertion.
  • If there is no urine flow or other complications occur (e.g. pain, difficult insertion or removal, bleeding, signs of urinary tract infection or discharge) please consult a healthcare professional.
  • After incorrect insertion, catheters must be discarded and not re-used. A new catheter should be selected. Used catheters should always be discarded.

Convatec 501005 GentleCath Straight Tip PVC Urinary Catheter Instructions for Male Use

NOTE: Healthcare professionals use aseptic technique

  • 1. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • 2. Withdraw the foreskin and wash the penis with soap and water.
  • 3. Peel open the package.
  • 4. Lubricate the catheter with water-soluble lubricant.
  • 5. Take the pre-lubricated catheter out from the package.
  • 6. Choose the position that is most comfortable.
  • 7. Hold penis up toward your stomach. Do not squeeze penis, as this can block the opening.
  • 8A. Straight Tip: Slide catheter slowly into the opening of urethra and into bladder until urine starts to flow.
  • 8B. Coude Tip: Keep the angled tip facing the front of you e.g. towards the ceiling, slide catheter slowly into the opening of urethra and into bladder until urine starts to flow.
  • 9. Point penis and the funnel end of the catheter down towards container.
  • 10. When the urine starts to flow, push the catheter in one or two cm to make sure that it is fully inside the bladder.
  • 11. To make sure bladder is emptied completely, remove the catheter slowly and stop if more urine starts to flow.
  • 12. When the bladder is empty, hold penis up toward stomach again and withdraw the catheter slowly. If uncircumsized, pull foreskin forward.
  • 13. Discard catheter after use.
  • 14. Wash hands.
