What Is a Biopsy Needle?
As the name implies, a biopsy needle is a special kind of needle that is used for biopsy procedures. A biopsy is when a tissue sample or cell sample is taken from the body to be tested and analyzed in a laboratory.

How Does a Biopsy Needle Work?
Biopsy needles are used in needle biopsy procedures. These procedures are usually carried out in hospitals or doctor's offices. The area being tested will first need to be cleaned and may also be numbed with anesthetic prior to the insertion of the needle. The needle will then be inserted and CT scans or ultrasound may be used to guide it into position. The syringe attached to the needle will allow for a sample to be taken, before the needle is then removed and the insertion site bandaged. The sample is then sent to a lab for testing.
