What Is a Bardex Catheter?

A Bardex catheter is a special brand of catheter, produced exclusively by the company C. R. Bard, otherwise known as Bard, based in Murray Hill, New Jersey. These catheters are known for their quality and extremely safe and hygienic designs.

Designed to be inserted into the urethra to allow for the passage of urine, these catheters are enhanced with Bard's Hydrogel and Bacti-Guard technology to massively reduce the risk of any contamination while in use or when being prepared.

How Does a Bardex Catheter Work?

Bardex catheters are a type of Foley catheter. Therefore, they work in the same way as standard Foley catheters. They consist of a tube which is separated into two channels, or lumens. One of the lumens drains urine into a catheter bag, while the other has a valve and is connected to a balloon that can be inflated when the catheter is in use to keep it in position. Bardex catheters also have a special silver coating to reduce the risk of bacterial growth.

Bardex Catheter Sizes 

Bardex catheters are available in a range of different sizes to suit various situations and patients. They are measured using the French scale or French gauge system, with measurements ranging from as low as 6 Fr up to 26 Fr for the largest catheters.
