What Is an IV Extension Set?
An IV extension set, as the name implies, is a piece of medical equipment that is connected to IV lines and IV catheters in order to extend the distance at which the catheters can function. For example, you may use an IV extension set to add an extra 50, 100, or 200cm to an existing IV line.

How Does an IV Extension Set Work?
IV extension sets are quite simple to use, but the method of usage can vary depending on which kind of extension item or accessory is being used. Usually, IV extension sets need to be primed and attached to existing IV lines via the port at the distal end of the catheter. A Luer lock may be used to secure the extension set in place, and the other end of the extension set can be accessed via syringe or connected to an IV bag or set for the delivery of fluids. Once all of the pieces of the IV extension set are in place, the IV extension set will aid in the transmission of fluids into the patient’s body.
