What Is a PGA Suture?
A PGA suture, also known as a polyglycolic acid suture, is a specific type of medical suture, made from a polyfilament formation of polyglycolic acid. This is a commonly-used synthetic polymer suture which may be either undyed or dyed green to aid with visibility during the stitching process.
PGA sutures, like other types of surgical sutures, have a range of pros and cons which make them more or less suited to certain applications. They have minimal tissue reaction, which is a useful advantage for reducing the risk of any adverse reactions or excessive swelling, as well as decent tensile strength and handling, but aren't the best when it comes to knot security.
Because of these features, PGA sutures are best used on a subcutaneous level. They're commonly chosen by surgeons and doctors for repairing and stitching subcutaneous tissue around the body, proving useful for repairing incisions after surgery.

How Does a PGA Suture Work?
PGA sutures work just like any other kind of medical suture. First, the surgeon must choose the appropriate size of suture to work with, which will depend on the size and scale of the area that needs to be stitched up. Once the right size has been chosen, the PGA suture can be attached to a surgical needle and prepared for the stitching process.
