305211 - 18 G BD Blunt 5 Micron Filter Needle 1 1/2 in. Sterile, Single use

BD blunt fill and blunt filter needles are specifically designed to reduce the risk for needlestick injuries during medication preparation.* They reduce the need for a broad selection of conventional needles, so you can drive efficiencies and cost reduction through SKU standardization.

As a healthcare institution, your objectives are simple: remove conventional needles; provide safety-engineered alternatives; and manage costs. The BD Blunt Needle family allows you to meet these objectives:

  • Eliminates an unnecessary sharp
  • 10 x the force to penetrate the skin, compared to a conventional needle
  • Rapid filling, can cope with viscous medications
  • Proven efficacy
  • Cost-effective
  • Specifically designed to safely bridge medication preparation and administration
  • 5 micron filter captures 98% of particulate
  • 45 bevel cut reduces coring of vial stopper
  • Only 2.5x the force needed to penetrate a vial stopper

Types of Needle Walls and Bevels

The Thin Wall needle is thinner than a Regular Wall needle. The inner diameter is bigger without any increase in the outside diameter. For example, a 21 G Thin Wall needle has the same outside diameter as a 21 G Regular Wall, but has the same inner diameter as a 20 G needle. Thin Wall allows the same flow volume as a Regular Wall needle one gauge larger.

305211 Regular Wall

This is the most common wall thickness. The thickness of the steel wall allows a good flow rate, and minimizes flexing when the needle is inserted into a vial stopper or patient.

305211 Blunt bevel

Blunt bevel: The blunt tip is used for injection into soft tissue and when a uniform solution distribution is needed. The beveled style is used for applications that involve the penetration of a tough tissue. A blunt fill needle is designed to reduce the potential for needlestick injuries.

Stainless Steel Needle

Made of stainless steel, which is siliconized to allow easier penetration, thus minimizing patient discomfort. Available in different lengths and gauges to suit individual clinical and patient needs.

Reduce Risk and Costs at the Same Time

Minimizing the risk of needlestick injuries doesnt have to be costly. And it wont be when you introduce the BD Blunt Fill and Blunt Filter Needles into your facility. They are both designed to minimize the risk of needlesticks, yet they allow for SKU standardization and rationalization while standardizing clinical practice.

When you buy safety syringe/needle combinations, it can be costly. Nurses continue to change needles for filling and then injecting. If they are using a safetyengineered needle, that can add up quickly. Blunt fill needles provide the convenience of pre-attached combos nurses desire, along with the clinical flexibility required in this environment of safety systems. Your facility will therefore be able to introduce safety-engineered products with minimal cost so you can apply your precious resources to areas with the greatest exposure risk. And the needles will cause minimal change to clinical practice thus bridging the gap from conventional to safety.
