Product Description

Cook Medical G36282 - GUIDE HI-WIRE HWA-35-150, 5/BX

HiWire Hydrophilic Wire Guide Standard Shaft with an Angled Tip

Nitinol with a Tungsten-Impregnated Polyurethane Jacket

Utilizing proprietary processes, the HiWire Hydrophilic Wire Guide is constructed from a steerable, metallic core with a polymer coating. A hydrophilic coating is applied over the radiopaque polymer jacket.

Intended Use

To facilitate the placement of devices during diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Enhanced Coating for Pptimum Performance

Enhanced Coating

New and improved coating provides superior, long-lasting lubricity to facilitate diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Total Control

Optimum shaft stiffness and tip fl exibility, combined with 1:1 torque response, provides maximum directional control.

Greater Visibility

Advanced materials make the HiWire hydrophilic wire guides more radiopaque than other hydrophilic wire guides.*

Preparation for Use

  • Before removing the hydrophilic wire guide from its dispenser, inject sterile heparinized saline solution into the luer lock hub end of the dispenser.
  • Inject enough solution to fill the dispenser coil. This will completely cover the wire guide surface and activate the hydrophilic coating.

  • Remove the hydrophilic wire guide from its dispenser by gently withdrawing the wires tip.
  • If the hydrophilic wire guide cannot easily be removed from its dispenser, inject more heparinized saline solution into the dispenser and then try again.

Directions for Use

  • Fill catheter or other device with heparinized saline solution before and during use to ensure smooth movement of the hydrophilic wire guide within the device.
  • When wet with saline solution or blood, the hydrophilic wire guide will become lubricious. Use of sterilized gauze moistened with heparinized saline solution facilitates handling the wire.
  • Insert the wire guide into the device and advance to desired position.
NOTE: If movement of the wire within the device becomes diminished, remove the wire guide and reactivate the hydrophilic coating by wetting its entire surface with heparinized saline solution.

After Use

  • Excess blood can be removed from the wire guide by wiping the surface once or twice with gauze moistened with heparinized saline solution. DO NOT use dry gauze as this may damage the wire surface resulting in increased resistance when the wire is reinserted into the device.
  • Use of alcohol, antiseptic solutions or other solvents must be avoided, because they may adversely affect the surface of the hydrophilic wire guide.
  • After cleaning the wire, replace it by its proximal end into its dispenser filled with heparinized saline solution. This wire guide can only be used during the same procedure on the same patient.
  • Upon reinsertion into the device, if the wire guide does not move with initial ease, exchange it for a new HiWire Hydrophilic Wire Guide.

Cautions

  • Prior to use, inspect for damage. If damaged, DO NOT USE.
  • This device is sterilized by ethylene oxide gas and intended for one-time use only. Do not use any unit if its package is opened or damaged. Do not resterilize and/or reuse.
  • Carefully read all instructions prior to use. Observe all warnings and cautions. Failure to do so may result in complications.
  • Avoid manipulating or withdrawing the hydrophilic wire guide back through a metal needle or cannula. A sharp edge may scrape the coating or shear the wire guide. A catheter, introducer sheath or vessel dilator should replace the needle as soon as the wire guide has been inserted in the vessel.
  • It is recommended that a plastic torque device be used to handle the hydrophilic wire guide. Use of a metal torque device may damage the wire.
