Product Description

Covidien 030449 - Endo GIA Universal 12MM Stapler 30MM, 45MM & 60MM lines. 6 Rows Of Staples, 1 Per/Bx

Endo GIA Universal 12 mm (Single Use Instrument) stapler has applications in abdominal, gynecologic, pediatric and thoracic surgery for resection, transection and creation of anastomosis. A single use, reloadable laparoscopic articulating - 22 and 45 in both directions - linear cutting instrument, shaft rotating 360 for resection, transection and anastomosis. The stapler places two triple, staggered rows of titanium staples and simultaneously the knife divides the tissue in between.

The instrument is designed for multiple use during a single surgical procedure. It can be reloaded up to 25 times for a total of 25 applications. The loading unit can articulate at 22 and 45 in both directions by moving the proximal knob on the stapler. The size of the staples is determined by the selection of the 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.5 mm or 4.8 mm single-use loading unit SULU. The Endo GIA* UNIVERSAL stapler will accommodate any of the SULU sizes that are available in the 30 mm, 45 mm and 60 mm lines. 6 rows of staples on all cartridge sizes.

Providing superior staple line security. 60 mm Cartridges minimize number of firings per procedure. New Knife Blade with every firing provides maximum sharpness and reduces the risk of cross contamination that exists when reusing the same knife blade. 2.0 Cartridge for thin vascular tissue provides maximum versatility and hemostasis.Tissue Gap Control physically pulls the anvil and cartridge together as the stapler is fired provides precise staple formation even at the distal end of the cartridge. Diameter: 12mm Shaft length: Determined by the selection of the 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.5 mm or 4.8 mm SULU. Staple Line: 30 mm, 45 mm and 60 mm.

FAQs

1.Does the knife blade get reused with each firing?

Absolutely not! Every cartridge comes with a new sterile knife blade. Using a new knife for each firing ensures that it will never dull through repeated use and reduces the risk of cross contamination that exists when reusing the same knife blade.

2.Does the knife cut beyond the last row of staples?

Absolutely not. The staple line continues well beyond the cut line. The knife slot on the cartridge does extend beyond the staples to house the tissue gap control mechanism.

3.Which cartridges can be used with the Endo GIA Universal?

All Straight and Endo GIA Roticulator cartridges can be used with all Universal instruments (GIA Universal, Endo GIA Universal and Endo GIA Universal XL).

4.What is the shaft diameter of the Endo GIA Universal?

The shaft diameter of the Endo GIA Universal is 12mm. All cartridges, with the exception of the 4.8 reloads, are 12mm. The 4.8's cartridges (green) are 15mm to accommodate the physical height of the 4.8 staple. A 10-15mm Versaport Plus trocar is available to accommodate the 4.8 cartridges, reorder code 179078.

5.Do you make a GREEN Endo GIA Roticulatorcartridge?

We expect to release our new 4.8 (green) Endo GIA Roticulator cartridge in 45mm and 60mm linear lengths shortly.

6.How many times can the Endo GIA Universal instrument be reloaded?

All three Universal instruments (GIA Universal, Endo GIA Universal and Endo GIA Universal XL) can be loaded and fired 25 times.

7.Why do I have to squeeze the handle multiple times?

The Endo GIA Universal Stapling System compresses tissue as it is fired. The tissue gap control mechanism consistently and predictably compresses tissue while it simultaneously lays down a staple line and transects the tissue. To accomplish this sequential tissue compression, the instrument is fired in 15mm increments with each full squeeze of the handle. This action moves the tissue gap control mechanism 15mm with each squeeze, to physically pull the anvil and staple cartridge together to sequentially compress the tissue as it fires. This provides consistent staple formation even at the distal end of the cartridge.

8.Why do I need 6 rows of staples-open staplers only have 4 and I have no problems?

The staple wire gauge used in "open staplers" is heavier and does not require the additional row of staples. Endoscopic staplers use thinner wire gauge and the additional row of staples ensures superior staple line security and hemostasis.

9.How do I know which staple size to use?

Per the Instructions For Use (IFU) booklet, the 2.0mm cartridge (gray) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to .75mm - 1.0mm. The 2.5mm cartridge (white) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to 1.0mm -1.5mm. The 3.5mm cartridge (blue) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to 1.5mm - 2.0mm. The 4.8mm cartridge (green) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to 2.0mm.

10.How do you fire the instrument?

**Please refer to the Instructions for Use (IFU) booklet for complete instructions. Once inside the cavity, open the jaws. Squeeze the handle once to close the jaws on the tissue. Press the green safety button. To fire the instrument, squeeze the handle. Continue to squeeze the handle until the cartridge has been fully fired. Pull back on the black retraction knobs to open the jaws.

11.How do you open the jaws of the stapler?

To open the jaws of the instrument, pull back on the black retraction knobs.
