Covidien 8886196952 - SUTURE, SURGILON, 2/0, (1969-52), 24/BX

Covidien 8886196952 Surgilon Braided Nylon Suture, Taper Point, Size 2-0, 18", Needle GS-22, 1/2 Circle, Black (Pack of 24)

SURGILON braided nylon sutures are nonabsorbable surgical sutures composed of the long-chain aliphatic polymers and Nylon 6.6. The braided sutures are coated uniformly with silicone to enhance handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue and reduction of capillarity.

The advanced extrusion process of the nylon molecule and the coating process give the suture:

  • A tight braid with a uniform diameter
  • Maximum flexibility of the strand
  • Excellent security with snug and flattened knots
  • Excellent handling
  • Excellent and consistent knotting strength

Features and Benefits

  • Uniform braided structure is designed to provide resistance to breaking
  • Easy to handle
  • Knot security

Frequent Uses

  • Soft tissue approximation
  • Ophthalmic
  • Neurological surgery

Indications

SURGILONTM braided nylon sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neural tissue.

Contraindications

Due to the gradual loss of tensile strength which may occur over prolonged periods in vivo, nylon sutures should not be used where permanent retention of tensile strength is required.

Actions

SURGILON braided nylon sutures elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissue, which is followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue.

Tensile Strength

As with any nylon suture, though not absorbed, progressive hydrolysis of the suture in vivo may result in gradual loss of its tensile strength over time.

Sterilization

SURGILONTM braided nylon sutures are sterilized by ethylene oxide in sizes 6-0 (0.7 metric) and smaller and by gamma irradiation in sizes 2 (5 metric) through 5-0 (1 metric).

Packaging

SURGILON braided nylon sutures are available dyed (white or black with Logwood extract), in USP and EP sizes 2 (5 metric) through 7-0 (0.5 metric). The sutures are supplied sterile, in pre-cut lengths, ligating reels, non-needled or affixed to needles using both permanent and removable needle attachment techniques; in one, two and three dozen box quantities.
