Product Description

Covidien D1764K - Suture 5-0 Polyester SS-24/SS-24 Surgidac White 18" Braid 12/Bx

Covidien D1764K Surgidac Polyester Suture, Premium Spatula, Size 5-0, 18", Needle SS-24, 1/4 Circle, white (Pack of 12)

Surgidac polyester sutures are non-absorbable, sterile surgical sutures composed of polyethylene terephthalate. The tight, uniform braid provides greater resistance to breaking, kink-free suture delivery, and easier needle arming and dispensing. Surgidac monofilament sutures are uncoated and the braided sutures are available uncoated or coated uniformly with polybutylene adipate to increase surface lubricity, thereby enhancing handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue, and knot run-down properties.

These sutures show high tensile strength, both linear and knotted, providing:

  • Maximum security in approximation of tissues under stress conditions
  • Permanent support (tensile strength is retained indefinitely)
  • Maximum security with prosthetic implants

Surgidac sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neural tissue.

Features and Benefits

  • Uniform braided structure is designed to provide resistance to breaking.
  • Cutting-edge spatula needles are designed for anterior segment surgery in ophthalmology.
  • Spatula needles separate or split through the thin lamellar plane of corneal and scleral tissue.

Frequent Uses

  • Soft tissue approximation
  • Ophthalmic
  • Cardiovascular
  • Neurological surgery

Indications

Surgidac polyester sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological surgery.

Actions

Surgidac polyester sutures elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue.

Tensile Strength

Surgidac polyester sutures are not absorbed, nor is any significant change in tensile strength retention known to occur in vivo.

Sterilization

Surgidac polyester sutures in sizes 6-0 or smaller or pledgeted sutures are sterilized by ethylene oxide. Sizes 5-0 or greater are sterilized by gamma irradiation.

Packaging

SURGIDAC polyester sutures are available undyed (white), braided and uncoated in USP and EP sizes 5-0 (1 metric). The sutures are supplied sterile, in pre-cut lengths, affixed to various needle types using both permanent and removable needle attachment techniques.
