Maxorb Extra Ag+ CMC / Alginate Dressings

Antimicrobial CMC/Alginate Dressings

Maxorb Extra Ag+ Helps manage bacterial burden. Controlled-release ionic silver. Cost-effective. Easy dressing changes. Highly absorbent. Reduces odor. Fluid will not wick laterally. Up to 21-day antimicrobial protection. Reinforced silver CMC/ alginate ribbon. Ribbon is ideal for tunneling.

Maxorb Extra Ag provides antimicrobial silver protection and maximum absorbency

  • Sustained antimicrobial protection This antimicrobial silver dressing is effective for up to 21 days.
  • Highly absorbent Maxorb Extra Ag absorbs more than other alginate or absorbent silver dressings.
  • Fluid will not wick laterally Wound exudate mixes with Maxorb Extra Ag to form a gel that will not wick out, reducing the potential for damage to periwound skin.
  • Superior gelling and fluid handling The CMC fiber in Maxorb Extra Ag improves the vertical wicking and fluid handling as well as the wet strength.
  • Reduces odor Odor in wounds is primarily caused by bacteria, and so by providing an antibacterial barrier to combat bacteria absorbed in the wound exudate, odor is reduced.
  • One piece removal High wet and dry integrity means easy one-piece removal.

Continuous-release ionic silver provides antimicrobial protection

  • Reducing bioburden in a wound is one of the key factors in helping it heal. If too many of the body's resources are devoted to fighting invaders, fewer resources are available to help the body heal itself.
  • Although silver has long been known as an antimicrobial, it has two inherent weaknesses: the body metabolizes it quickly and it can be cytotoxic. Maxorb Extra Ag releases silver in extremely small amounts that do not damage healthy tissue. Yet it still acts as an extremely effective antimicrobial.
  • Maxorb Extra Ag is seeded with an ionic silver compound called silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate. This ionic silver compound is unusual because it is activated by sodium and not by water. Exposure to the sodium in wound exudate stimulates the continuous release of silver ions, providing antimicrobial protection over a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi, including MRSA and VRE.
  • Maxorb Extra Ag is biocompatible, non-irritating, non-sensitizing and will not harm new granulation tissue.

CMC fibers provide extra absorbency and strength

Maxorb Extra Ag's combination of non-woven alginate and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) fiber is more absorbent than other alginate dressings. As wound fluid is absorbed by the alginate, it forms a gel, which assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing. Plus, it allows intact, one-piece removal. The added presence of CMC improves the gelling and fluid handling ability as well as adding improved wet strength.

RECOMMENDED USE

  • All wound depths.
  • Moderate to heavy drainage levels.
  • As a primary dressing.

RECOMMENDED SECONDARY DRESSINGS

  • Optifoam Gentle.
  • Stratasorb Composite.
  • Bordered gauze.

INDICATIONS

  • Moderate to heavily exudating partial to full thickness wounds.
  • Post-operative wounds.
  • Trauma wounds.
  • Leg ulcers.
  • Pressure ulcers.
  • Diabetic ulcers.
  • Graft and donor sites.
  • 1st and 2nd degree burns.

Change Frequency

  • Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate. Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours.
  • Maxorb Extra Ag may be left in place for up to 21 days.

MODIFIED ASEPSIS INDEX

Asepsis index is a measure of 10 wound healing parameters. A lower score is preferable.
