Product Description

Medline MSC9422EP - DRESSING, MAXORB EXTRA AG, SLVR ALG, 2"X2", 10/BX

Maxorb ES Ag+, 2 x 2" (5.1 x 5.1 cm)

Antimicrobial CMC/Alginate dressing

Maxorb ES Ag+ is a reinforced antimicrobial CMC / Alginate dressing ideal for filling moderate to heavily draining partial and full thickness wounds at risk for infection. Easy one-piece and residue-free removal. Ideal when you need a dressing with the strength to stand up to a tunneling wound.

The broad spectrum antimicrobial silver technology, effective on exudate absorbed in the wound dressing, helps manage the bioburden present in the wound environment to aid in the healing process. Change frequency: Up to 21 days.

Sustained antimicrobial protection

Releases silver ions, in the presence of wound fluid, for up to 21 days.

Highly absorbent

Maxorb Extra Ag+ absorbs more than other alginate or absorbent silver dressings.

Fluid will not wick laterally

Wound exudate mixes with dressing to form a gel that will not wick out, reducing the potential for damage to periwound skin.

Superior gelling and fluid handling

The CMC fiber improves the vertical wicking and fluid handling as well as the wet strength.

Reduces odor

By providing an antibacterial barrier to combat bacteria absorbed in the wound exudate, odor is reduced.

Continuous-Release Ionic Silver Provides Antimicrobial Protection!

Reducing bioburden in a wound is one of the key factors in helping it heal. If too many of the body's resources are devoted to fighting invaders, fewer resources are available to help the body heal itself. Although silver has long been known as an antimicrobial, it has two inherent weaknesses: the body metabolizes it quickly and it can be cytotoxic. Maxorb Extra Ag releases silver in extremely small amounts that do not damage healthy tissue. Yet it still acts as an extremely effective antimicrobial.

Maxorb Extra Ag is seeded with an ionic silver compound called silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate. This ionic silver compound is unusual because it is activated by sodium and not by water. Exposure to the sodium in wound exudate stimulates the continuous release of silver ions, providing antimicrobial protection over a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi, including MRSA and VRE. Maxorb Extra Ag is biocompatible, non-irritating, non-sensitizing and will not harm new granulation tissue.

CMC Fibers Provide Extra Absorbency and Strength

Maxorb Extra Ag's combination of non-woven alginate and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) fiber is more absorbent than other alginate dressings. As wound fluid is absorbed by the alginate, it forms a gel, which assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing. Plus, it allows intact, one-piece removal. The added presence of CMC improves the gelling and fluid handling ability as well as adding improved wet strength.
