Application & Removal

To Apply Cannula

  • Connect system to gas source. Place hand close to the nasal prongs to ensure that there is airflow exiting the prongs.
  • Remove adhesive backing and place the nasal cannula in the nares ensuring that there is at least a 2 mm (0.08 inches) gap from the base of the prongs to the septum.
  • Ensure the cannula size is correct. Prongs should not fill the nares and a clear gap should be visible around each prong.

Checks During Operation

  • Check patients septal integrity.
  • Ensure that the tubing is not applying excessive pressure to the ears and face.
  • Ensure that there are no secretions in the nares that could cause the prongs to seal in the nares.
  • Under excessive load, the cannula may disconnect to prevent forces being transferred to the patient. Ensure that all connections are secure during use.
